DIY easter bunny apron

This year will be my first year hosting Easter dinner for my family, and you know me.. I am going overboard. I'm so obsessed with the idea of forming new traditions with this dinner, so every decision has been something that I want to last for years to come. I got Beatrix Potter plates and carrot patterned cloth napkins, some incredibly cute wicker bunny decorations for the centerpiece, and little carrot shaped drawstring bags that I'll fill with goodies for each guest. Every year we go over my grandmom's for Christmas breakfast and I've always loved seeing the same decorations come out each year, the same sugar bowl, the same pastries from a local bakery. I want my family to feel that way about my Easter dinner. Ten or twenty years from now they'll be like "Yay! The Beatrix Potter plates!" or "I was looking forward to your vegetable pot pie all year!" I will definitely take photos and share details about my dinner afterwards, but today I wanted to show you a really easy quick DIY I whipped up!

I wanted a cute apron to wear on Easter while I'm cooking, since I'll want to be dressed in my Finest Pastels but I do not want to get food all over them. This apron is so incredibly easy to make -- and the only tools you need to make it are hot glue and scissors!

Materials needed:

Plain cotton apron (I got mine at Michaels)
Grey yarn
Wooden buttons
Pink and cream colored felt

Cut out two bunny ears from the cream fabric, and then two smaller bunny-ear shapes from the pink. Hot glue the pink shapes onto the cream shapes to form your ears!

Then simply hot glue the bunny ear pieces onto the straps of your apron (I attached the bottom of the ear to each corner of the apron, and then ran hot glue along the length of strap that the ear would be covering.) Hot glue the buttons on for eyes, and hot glue strips of yarn on to make a nose and whiskers. You could definitely sew this on, too, if you have the right needle for it! I just wanted to whip this up quickly and hot glue was easiest!

And voila - you have a cute little bunny apron for Easter!

happy easter!

I feel like such a scrooge admitting this, but I haven't really been enjoying holidays much the last few years. I love my family (and food) but I've felt this subtle shift and I can't help it. I knew something was definitely off when I didn't look forward to putting up my Christmas decorations last year, and then a couple weeks ago I got out my Easter decorations and gave up after putting out a wreath and a basket of fake eggs :p

That being said, I'm still dressing for holidays as if my life depended on it. I think this is my favorite Easter outfit of all time. I went back and looked at some of my previous Easter posts and it's absolutely my favorite of the bunch. It's also a pretty good indicator of how my style has evolved over the past year or so. (You can view all of my old Easter outfits here.)

happy easter!

Happy Easter! I can't believe how quickly this sprung up on me this year... I feel like it should be closer to Valentine's Day or something! It's probably because it didn't start to feel like spring until this week, I was caught off guard! :)

Yesterday my dad and I went out to get our Easter meals from Whole Foods (my grandmom makes ham so we pick up meat-free meals instead) and stopped at Princeton Record Exchange for Record Store Day. I walked away with Faithless by Marianne Faithfull, Strange Mercy by St. Vincent and two Beatles albums (I'm kind of obsessed after seeing A Hard Day's Night last week.) I already have Faithless and Strange Mercy on itunes but there's something about being able to play them on my turntable that I can't resist -- I'm a diehard analog girl, I can't help it.

a rainy easter

Easter this year was really rainy and overcast (read: reason for my grainy pictures) but that didn't stop me from donning pastels head to toe! Albeit I did change into some pink polka-dotted rainboots before heading out to my grandmom's house for Easter dinner! And I thought this little bunny brooch was absolutely *perfect* for the holiday this year, since I'd imagine the Easter Bunny would definitely be wearing a scarf and jacket while making his rounds in this unseasonably chilly weather!

hopping down the bunny trail

dress - modcloth
glasses chain - asos
shoes - asos
cardigan - old navy

I wore this over my grandmom's for Easter dinner on Sunday. We had such a nice time! Me and my dad don't eat meat, so we partook of our usual Easter tradition and got platters at Whole Foods to enjoy while everyone else had ham and kielbasa. My mom and I just discovered that you can play Bookworm (a video word game) on cable with the remote, so after dinner we gathered around the tv and played until it was time for dessert. We also played a quick game of Sorry (grandmom won!) and me and my mom decided to sing most of the lyrics to all of the songs from Mary Poppins before finally heading home. My grandmom lives about one block away, but for some reason we only visit on Christmas and Easter (she visits us about 3-4 times a week though) which makes holidays at her place extra special!

ps. The Easter Bunny brought me grapefruit juice, Flakes, Now and Laters, a jump rope and sidewalk chalk. Did anyone else get anything good? :)

pss. Happy Anniversary to my favorite parents in the whole wide world!! ♥

easter, take two

dress, cardigan & belt - forever 21
shoes - aldo

So this is what I actually wore on Easter! I took the photos for my Easter post last Thursday, and had every intention of wearing that outfit Sunday, but changed my mind at the last minute on Easter morning. I'm really glad I did, since those tights would have been impossible in my grandmother's apartment, on a 90 degree day with the a/c turned off! The cardigan, needless to say, wasn't worn very long either...

I don't know if it's just New Jersey, but we don't seem to get Spring or Fall here anymore. There's maybe a week of transitional weather where it alternates between hot and cold, then bam! It's just totally hot until the end of summer. We're in 80-90 degree weather now, and only about a week ago it was in the 60's. I miss that in-between weather when it's warm but not sweltering, or cool but not freezing!

Do you want to comment, but have no idea what to say? Trust me, I've been there! So to make things a little easier, here is a question you can answer if you can't think of anything else to say! :)

Would you rather live somewhere that's summer all year long, or winter all year long?

here comes peter cottontail

dress - h&m
belt - vintage
tights - we love colors
shoes - from my grandmom

Confession: I like to dress like a giant easter egg. It probably stems from my mom dolling me up in light pink tights, white shoes and the most pastel dress in my closet to go over my grandmother's for easter when I was little. I lose any sense of balance with dark and light, on easter there is no such thing as too much light pink, or too much light green. Even my nails are painted all different pastel shades. I'm terribly literal when it comes to dressing for holidays. It's awfully cornball, but I honestly don't care. I love wearing red and green on Christmas, and black and orange on Halloween :)

We're going over my grandmom's today... me and my brother have the hardest time containing our laughter when we're there because my grandmom is really OCD about easter egg hunts. She writes down where she puts each egg, then follows us around with the pad to check off when we find each egg. If we're not finding them fast enough, she starts trying to direct us to the right spots so we can speed things up and eat dinner. It's equally odd and hilarious, but probably one of the best family traditions we have ;-D

If you had a pet bunny, what would you name it?

easter candy

dress - modcloth
tights - h&m
cardigan - old navy
shoes - from my grandmom

Today I felt like a walking talking easter candy display, and I couldn't be happier about it! One of my favorite things about spring is easter candy. I don't actually like to eat it, since I'm not big on sweets, but I LOVE looking at it. All those pastels -- kisses are probably my favorite with their light pink, blue and green foiled wrappers -- are just so pretty I could squeal! I love walking through the drug store and seeing all the candy for sale in big pastel displays with bunnies and ducklings and don't even get me started on how much I love pastel egg dye kits. oh gosh. They're just so PRETTY!!!

Oh, if my hair color looks a bit different, that's because I'm currently dying it. I used to do it all in one night - I'd bleach it blonde, then dye it red, but I was afraid of what I might be doing to my scalp with all the chemicals going on at once, so now I stretch it out a few days. This is what my hair looks like after the bleaching. I don't leave it on too long, just enough to lighten my dark brown roots so the red will show up, which is why it looks sort of orangey (though it matches my easter colored outfit quite well, I think!)
