time machine to the 90s

http://sweetandlovely.storenvy.com/collections/122065-new-arrivals/products/8340843-time-machine-to-the-90s

If you follow me on instagram you might have seen my sneak peek of this product, along with the caption "coming next week" ... a whopping 17 weeks ago. eek!

Well they are finally available, for real this time. Right here.

I've (obviously) been working on this for a quite a while and I'm so excited! I wanted to create a product that would feel like an actual time machine -- not just an item but an experience. When you first open the package, you'll see a link to a 90s playlist to listen to while you start looking through your time machine. The kit includes all of the sights, sounds, tastes and even smells needed to transport you back to your childhood.

I don't want to give much away since I think it would ruin the initial experience of reliving things that have been absent in your life for the last 20 years (or if you're an 00s kid with an affection for the 90s, experiencing these things for the very first time!) But suffice to say, there's candy and a boy band poster in every single box. The rest is like a mystery airhead candy -- you'll just have to open the package to find out what's inside! ;)

happy pi day!

Happy Pi Day! I've been saving this pie dress for today, it's just too perfect! Probably could have used a good ironing, but oh well! I also wore my new cutie pi brooch! I don't usually wear too many of my own products but with this one I'm too smitten not to! I think it'll probably be a wardrobe staple, Pi Day or not :)

If you're feeling festive, here's a Pi Day playlist that I made a couple years ago! :)

It's the most wonderful time of the year

As you might know, Pi Day is one of my favorite holidays (March 14 = 3.14 = pi!) and this year is the best Pi Day EVER because Mental Floss actually commissioned me (me?!) to do two paintings to be sold exclusively in their store. Ahh! The first one is called "Life of Pi," which shows little Mr. Pi in various stages of life -- infancy, teenager, graduation, love & marriage, kids, and old age. But as we all know, Pi never dies.. it just goes on forever ;) This design is available in the Mental Floss store on t-shirts and as an 18" x 24" poster!

Mental Floss also commissioned this painting, Pizza Pi!! This one is my favorite :) Also look what they wrote for the description.. I'm blushing!

"When the moon hits the sky like a big pizza pi and you happen to know an incredibly talented artist who specializes in punny prints - well, that's amore! Kate Gabrielle, whom we met when we began selling her wonderful Puns Intended prints agreed to paint this pizza pi in the sky design exclusively for Floss."

This painting is available on tote bags in the Mental Floss shop here. Working with Mental Floss has been one of the best things to happen in my whole life. I've been reading the magazine for years and I'm SUCH a huge fan. It's all just super exciting.

And finally, my Cutie Pi brooches are back just in time for Pi Day! I only have a limited amount ready to ship in time for Pi Day so if you're interested, snatch it up quickly ;) I'll have more in stock after the holiday if you're just interested in wearing it for normal everyday math/pun appreciation.

It's available in my sweet & lovely shop here. (psst! 10% off with code BRILLIANT)

new new new

I have some new items I've made recently that I'm really excited about! First is this printable Halloween card.. it's blank inside so it can be used as a greeting card or party invitation, or it can be framed for seasonal decor! :) It's available as an instant download here.

I'm VERY excited about this one! I've been wanting to do some silent movie title card inspired items for Flapper Doodle for the longest time..  it's such a perfect fit for my 1920's artwork! This printable Halloween banner was hand-lettered with a white art deco border and grainy black background to mimic 80-year-old-film. I have all kinds of related ideas.. birthday banners, note cards, calendars, the possibilities are endless :D For now though, there's just this one little banner.. available as an instant download here.

Voila! The first drawing for my 2014 calendar (coming soon!!) I had to release this one early since it's just so perfect for October! It's available as a print here.

One of my best friends, Sarah, recently moved into a new apartment so I made this little card for her housewarming gift! I liked how it came out so much that I had to make it into a printable, too! ;) The download comes with files for printing it as a note card or an art print, and it's available (you guessed it) as an instant download here.

Last but not least, a digital printable blog planner! This year I got really off track with my blogging schedule and felt like I needed something to get organized, so I created this kit and decided to share it as a printable, too! It includes sheets for keeping track of giveaways, product reviews, deadlines, brilliant ideas and more. It also includes two different perpetual calendar designs that can be used for blogging or just keeping track of a busy life :) It's available (drum roll..) as an instant download here.

ps. I took the photo of my Happy Halloween banner at my new apartment! Words can't describe how exciting it was to finally have access to a plain white wall for product pictures. yay!! :D

bears. beets. brooches.

There's a new brooch design over at sweet and lovely, and it's featuring America's favorite Assistant (to the) Regional Manager! ;D I drew this and had a sample made so that I could wear it to the Office Wrap Party this weekend, and when it came in the mail I just loved it SO much that I had to make more for Sweet and Lovely!

I also drew Michael Scott, Kevin, and Creed but I don't have pictures of the finished brooches yet -- they're coming soon though! If they go over well I might add more characters but for now I'm just sticking with my own favorites in case I end up having to keep all the brooches myself, lol! I also drew a Carl Sagan one, too! I'm probably getting a little carried away with the faces-as-wooden-brooches thing but I am just so smitten with this little Dwight, I can't help myself!

postcards from the happiest place on earth

Tomorrow morning bright and early (well actually, dark and early -- we go to the airport at 5am!! yikes!) I'll be on my way to Disney World! yay! My shops are staying open while I'm away so I thought it would be fun to do a little Disney-themed promotion! The first 30 people to use the coupon code "DISNEY15" in my sweet and lovely shop will receive 15% off* and a hand-written postcard from The Magic Kingdom! The orders have to be placed before April 16th at 12:01am est in order for me to mail the postcards before I come home.

If you want the discount but don't want a postcard (or on the off-chance that all 30 coupons have been used up by the time you place your order) you can use code MINNIEMOUSE for 15% off* without a postcard. I'm also offering 15% off in my flapper doodle shop with code DISNEY.

I came up with a really fun idea (at least I think so) for my scheduled blog posts while I'm away so I hope you'll stop back here tomorrow and see what I have up my sleeve!! ;D See you when I get back!

*Does not apply to blog design, bridesmaid cards or printable items.

gimme a little kiss

I've been taking outfit pictures a lot lately but I keep forgetting (or neglecting) to post them so I have a bit of a backlog! I took these almost two weeks ago I think. Eventually I'll get caught up :)

I spent most of the afternoon yesterday trying on half of the things in my closet picking out what I'm bringing to Disney World. I somehow ended up fitting everything into a little carry-on, quite impressive considering I usually seem to pack everything I own. I still can't believe I'll be in Florida the day after tomorrow... the next two days can't go by fast enough for me! I just can't wait to be on vacation :)

ps. new flapper doodle drawing!

friday favorites

I love this Jurassic Park poster from Jeff Langevin on etsy.

This is a super cool and incredibly easy DIY to make a classy dinosaur knick-knack!

This neon dinosaur planter from crazy couture on etsy is so awesome!

Are you beginning to sense a theme here? ;)

This DIY toothbrush holder for kids is fantastic. Hopefully I'm not the only one who saw this and thought "um, for kids? what about for me?" ;)

Dinosaur track cookies! Yum!! Recipe here.

A Jurassic Park tank top from forever 21! I'd probably size down and wear it tucked into a skirt with a cardigan... of course.

Mental Floss has a really neat article about developments in what we know about dinosaurs since Jurassic Park came out. I think it's interesting that the producers of the next JP movie coming out next year are choosing to go with series continuity over scientific fact. In my opinion, adding feathers to some of the dinosaurs would be in keeping with Dr. Grant's theories, so updating the dinosaurs would actually be more faithful to the original film.

This is such a cool art print! Right now the only dinosaur they have is the Stegosaurus.. I hope the artist eventually does a whole series, I think it would make for a really neat art display.

A T-Rex pen. You write with his tail!!

Going to see Jurassic Park at the movies just wouldn't be complete without some dinosaur accessories right? I'm planning on wearing this T-Rex fossil necklace from sweet and lovely :)

Pin the tiny arms on the t-rex! I've had this in my ideas notebook for the longest time but finally whipped it up this week, seeing as how it was so time appropriate ;)

If you search for dinosaurs on google like 90% of the top results tend to be for kids. Which is totally okay, I just wanted something to pore over that didn't have a cartoon dinosaur helping me to decide what facts to excavate next. This mini-site on the BBC has tons of information, artwork and links to even more information and artwork. If you have some time take a peek, if not it's definitely worth bookmarking to look at later!

And this is just ridiculously cute.

I just re-listed the birthday version of the book fair kit! I had this available back when the book fair was its own shop, but for some reason I never listed it when I transferred the products over to sweet and lovely! The birthday version of the kit includes all of the items in the regular one, except the pencil says "happy birthday" on it and it comes with this cute BSC personalized card!
