slumber party sunday

If you're not out shopping (labor day sales! woo hoo!) or having a picnic or cookout, perhaps you will join me for a little slumber party! I'm still hooked on treats-on-sticks (when will I *not* be hooked on treats on sticks, I ask you?) and the movie is my favorite movie of all time.. why I haven't featured it before, I have no idea! And finally we have part 4 of the 4 part ghost story!!

Chocolate covered smore pops. Need I say more? Recipe here.

Sunday in New York is my all time favorite movie, and it's such a great sleepover movie, I have no idea how I didn't think to include it until now! I was sitting here --very, very tired-- trying so hard to think of a movie for this post. I started looking around my room for ideas. Does anyone else do this? It hardly EVER works but this time I glanced by Sunday in New York poster, and I think I said out loud "DUH!!"

I basically know all of the dialogue ("two heads are better than one.. didn't know I had two heads, did you?" *cue me cracking up*) and I laugh hysterically every time I watch it. I'm not even sure at this point if it's actually THAT funny or if it's just so special to me that I find it hilarious in a way that nobody else would. But I just love the humor, and the way that all of the main characters interact with each other. And I won't deny that every single time I've ridden on a NYC bus I've secretly hoped that I'd get stuck to my own Rod Taylor. Buy it on Amazon (That's the only place I could find this one! No netflix, youtube or torrent, ergh!)

posh frock friday

dress - dorothy perkins
shoes - modcloth
belt - forever 21
collar - ASOS
hair bow - hive & honey

First I just have to acknowledge that this is my 500th post on Scathingly Brilliant! I have no idea what the significance is, but I just felt like it was something worth mentioning :) And I guess it's fitting that this is probably my favorite PFF outfit ever!!

The dress. OH MY GOSH THE DRESS. Could it be any prettier?! I'm so in love with it! I had to alter it a bit -- the waist was too low for me, so I shortened the straps, and I had to take a couple inches off of the hem. Now it fits perfectly, though, and it's probably my favorite posh frock in my wardrobe. I love how the little hints of pink in the embroidery at the hem match my hair!

Oh, speaking of my hair! I chopped if off. Literally chopped it off. I eyeballed it, and didn't even try to make it even. I figure, I wear it up every single day.. why bother making it straight, right? It's just long enough that I can still make my little bun/beehive thingy, and I can just barely do milkmaid braids (although those might need to wait a couple weeks or else I'll just have a head full of bobby-pins, tucking in fly-aways). It's such a relief, and it feels so light! It's funny, I think the last time I cut it this short was September of last year. I must have some kind of once-a-year-haircut-bug. ha! :)

star stuff

I'm so in love with these solar system flash cards from wildolive! They're great for teaching kids about the planets, but naturally I just want to frame them and put them on my wall! :)

the awkward stage

Today is a pretty exciting day for me! I took the advertising plunge, and purchased my first big ad buy for Flapper Doodle, and it went up this morning! It was a huge investment for me, but after hours of talks with my financial advisor (aka Mom) I decided to go for it.

Flapper Doodle is at a really awkward stage right now. It's sort of like when you're growing out your hair, and it gets to that weird just-below-the-shoulders length... you desperately want it to be waist length, but the frustration of this in-between stage makes you want to cut it all off again. Flapper Doodle is [knock on wood] successful, in that it keeps me VERY busy and gives me a steady income. But it's also getting to be a bit too much for me to handle on my own lately, and I constantly need to ask my mom & brother to help me out. I hope that buying this ad, and hopefully more in the future, will help me expand Flapper Doodle to a two-girl operation sometime soon. My 2012 goal is to be able to have a designated workspace (aka not in my bedroom) and have a part-time employee helping me out. If I can't reach that goal, I might need to do the business equivalent of "chopping it all off," downsizing to a few products so I can actually manage it on my own.

I'd love for Flapper Doodle to be my full time job forever, so I really hope this plan works! Oh, and you can hop over to A Beautiful Mess if you want to see my ad in the sidebar! eep!! I'm really happy with how it came out! :-D

ps. Congratulations to the winner of the H&M giveaway, comment #29 Kaycie! I have a new giveaway coming next Monday, so stay tuned! :)
