sunday funnies

A week or so ago, I mentioned on twitter that I wanted to get hooked on a new show since I was just re-watching my favorites over and over (I'm on my third viewing of the complete Eureka series since discovering it in February) and Sarah mentioned how outrageously hilarious Arrested Development was. Netflix has it on instant watch, so I decided to give it a try. And OH MY GOSH it might just be the funniest show in television history. I'm laughing just thinking about it. It is stuffed to the brim with brilliant actors who are so good at being funny it's like they have superhuman comedy skills. I just can't even describe how hilarious. So, if you already watch it, this graphic (which is available on a t-shirt, here!!) will probably make you spit out your morning coffee and burst into a hyperventilating laughing fit. If you don't watch it, you should. And if me commanding you to watch it isn't really enough, you know you want to anyway just to understand why "Chareth Cutestory, Maritime Law" is so darn funny.

sunday funnies

Just discovered funtweets.com, which compiles a bunch of funny tweets from twitter. Some humor accounts can be really stupid (I was following this one guy who made jokes about the Japan earthquake... seriously not cool, instant unfollow!) but some of them are absolutely hilarious! For the most part I follow friends and other bloggers on twitter, but it's nice to pepper my timeline with one-liners to brighten up the day! :)

psst! make sure you check back here tomorrow, it's my one year blog anniversary and I've got a super giveaway in store! :D

I love Newsradio, and this is probably my favorite part of the whole series. I just get such a kick out of it! I think it gets especially funny around 2:30 :)

sunday funnies

I think this is one of the coolest things ever, and so brilliantly executed!

The Sunday Funnies feature is one of my favorites, but it's my least popular post each week. I think it might be a Sunday thing because I had a feature on my movie blog each Sunday (song of the week) that had an equally pitiful reception. So, a question-- if you blog, do you have this problem too? The posts you like the most are the least read.. the ones you really want feedback on are the ones that get 0 comments. If you have an unsuccessful series, do you keep chugging or do you stop? Ultimately, we blog because we love to. So if we like posting pictures of groundhogs in glasses every Friday, even though nobody else does, we should keep posting those bespectacled animals to our hearts' content, right?

sunday funnies

Two weeks ago I watched the live broadcast of ACME Saturday Night on UStream because Colin Ferguson was guest-hosting. The skits that he participated in were hilarious, but this one in particular was so funny I literally had tears rolling down my cheeks. The scene takes place in 2009, when Colin Ferguson is meeting with his agent to discuss some parts he was offered -- The King's Speech, 127 Hours, True Grit and Lake Placid 3, with him choosing the latter. The premise isn't really new ... I've listened to quite a few Jack Benny episodes in which he recounts passing on Oscar-winning films in favor of The Horn Blows at Midnight, a notorious failure. But this skit is just so hilarious, the lack of originality is a moot point.

Naturally I probably find it more funny than everyone else will because I'm a fan of Colin Ferguson, but I don't think you need to be to get a kick of out it. It's only about 5 minutes long, and I promise they'll be 5 minutes well spent! :)

You can view the whole episode of the 2/11 ACME Saturday Night broadcast on their youtube channel, here. The Bulgarian/Russian food skit and the Eureka parody are pretty funny, as well!

sunday punnies

(via)

I am such a sucker for corny humor, so I really, really love puns. Here are some more of my favorites from the Pun of the Day site (which, by the way, is a great site to bookmark for your morning internet browsing. It's a super way to start the day!)

A noun and a verb were dating but they broke up because the noun was too possessive.

Lightning sometimes shocks people because it just doesn't know how to conduct itself.

The indecisive rower couldn't choose either oar.

My brother wishes he could compose smutty verse as good as mine. Is this scribbling ribaldry?

The envelope's favorite thing to watch is on paper view.

The one who invented the door knocker got a No-bell prize.

The magician got so mad he pulled his hare out.

Old colanders never die, they just can't take the strain anymore.

A cardboard belt would be a waist of paper.

sunday funnies

I love this comic from The Oatmeal! I bought the poster version in December, just haven't found a place to put it yet. But it's so much like Chloe! Some cats are like little harmless angels, but with Chloe I've definitely ventured into the realm of whiskered bear traps composed of claws teeth and agony! ;-D

sunday funnies

In the last week, I have become utterly, hopelessly, wonderfully in love with the SyFy show Eureka. It's about a town of geniuses who work for the government to create the newest cutting edge technology, whether it's medicine and cellular technology or nuclear weapons. The town sheriff, Jack Carter (played by Colin Ferguson, who is so brilliant --and so cute-- I feel like squealing each time he's on screen) is not a genius, but he more than makes up for his intellectual shortcomings with his wit, common sense and spot-on hunches. The show is part drama, part comedy ... the overall storyline is serious, but each episode has more than enough humor to keep it light. Even when a computer malfunction triggers a 24 hour countdown to planetary destruction, there are still jokes all around. It's geeky, but grounded. I mean seriously.. if I could marry a tv show, I would be Mrs. Eureka by now. I'm just so head over heels.

So, you're probably wondering by now.. "why are you posting this on sunday funnies day, Kate?" Glad you asked. It's partially because I couldn't contain my excitement any longer, and my family locked me in my room until I promised I'd stop talking about Eureka (I'm exaggerating, but they'll probably resort to that soon.) But it's also because this one clip from an episode I watched tonight struck me as so hilarious that I had to share it. I don't know if it is as amusing without the backstory of the episode (short story: contaminated meat makes all of the geniuses temporarily super stupid) but to me it was spit-out-your-grapefruit-juice, hyperventilating kind of funny. But then I'm sort of high on Eureka love, so I might be a bit biased ;-D

sunday punnies

I didn't get a chance to come up with a Sunday Funnies post last night because we had a family emergency (everything is okay now, thank goodness) so instead I just have a new super cute photo of Hypatia's face (times six), along with some puns I stole from Pun of the Day..

Did you hear about the guy whose whole left side was cut off? He's all right now.

I used to be addicted to soap, but I'm clean now.

I did a theatrical performance about puns. Really it was just a play on words.

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

Show me a piano falling down a mineshaft and I'll show you A-flat minor.

When William joined the army he disliked the phrase 'fire at will'.

There was once a cross-eyed teacher who couldn't control his pupils.

When a clock is hungry it goes back four seconds.

The dead batteries were given out free of charge.

A boiled egg in the morning is hard to beat.

What is the difference between a nicely dressed man on a tricycle and a poorly dressed man on a bicycle? A tire.

sunday funnies

I saw this comic on tumblr this week but by the time it got to my dashboard, there was no link back to the original artist (I'm just assuming there was one originally and it got deleted along the way, but I could be wrong) and the image that was circulating was small & kind of blurry, so I couldn't make out the credit in the corner... So I searched for Edgar Allen Pooh on google & found the original. It's from Bizarro Blog, and it's probably now one of my favorite puns EVER. I'm a big fan of both Pooh and Poe, so I find it absolutely hilarious!

While I was blog-surfing today (is that a term? it should be!) I came across a post on My Moving Finger Writes featuring a video of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" with the lyrics re-written to tell the history of the French Revolution. It's by The History Teachers .. I ended up getting sucked into their youtube channel and found this absolutely wonderful take on Marianne Faithfull's As Tears Go By, with the lyrics re-written to tell the story of the Hundred Years War:

Totally amazing, right?!? I know it's not technically "funny" but, well, neither is Nancy, and she gets included on the comics page every day, so I rest my case ;-D

sunday funnies

Here are some clips from my favorite episode of Fawlty Towers, "Communication Problems," about a difficult guest who's very hard of hearing. If you haven't seen Fawlty Towers yet, I highly recommend it! It is sheer brilliance!! If you like this clip, the whole episode is available on youtube here.

My grandmom brought me over the Sunday comic page today, so I got an early sneak peek of Monty, and it's hilarious this week! When I checked just now, it's wasn't posted on comics.com yet, but here's the link to the page. It involves Monty's hairless cat, Fleshy (who really resembles Hypatia when she was sans-fur) who is probably my favorite character in the series. I think for next week I might scan some of the old Fleshy-themed favorites I have cut out & saved! I have a whole box full of them labeled "Box of Laughter."

ps. I was thinking .. would it be a good idea to make Posh Frock Friday a weekly thing, and that way anyone can participate on any Friday that works for them, instead of being confined to the last Friday of each month? I probably wouldn't get dressed up myself each week, but maybe whenever I opt out of an outfit photo I could do a window-shopping post of dresses I'd love to own, with the mister linky box underneath for anyone who wants to add their PFF post?

sunday funnies

We had to get rid of our newspaper subscription last year thanks to a tighter family budget, and although I liked reading the whole thing, I'll admit the part I missed the most was the Sunday Funnies. So ever since then I've tried to make it a little tradition to find something funny each Sunday morning to start my day off on a happy, silly note. And I thought, as long as I'm doing that already, why not share it here?!

I wanted my first Sunday Funnies feature to be a clip from Friends where they play a new game show called "Bamboozled!" but unfortunately it seems like every. single. Friends clip on youtube has embedding disabled. Because of course, that would only increase views and possibly gain the show more fans.. why would you want that? (ERGH.) Anyway, you can view the clip here. I'd say it's probably my favorite scene from the show, and that's saying something because I have about 8,000 favorite scenes (low ballpark estimate.)

While on the subject of funny scenes from my favorite shows, here's a clip I uploaded this week from The Golden Girls. Blanche is upset because she has to have surgery, so Rose recounts that as a child whenever she was scared or nervous, her mom would sing a lullaby to her that would always make her feel better .. the WWI battle song "Over There." As usual everyone looks at her like she's nuts, but when Blanche is being wheeled into surgery, they all burst out in song. It's hilarious!

And Sunday wouldn't be Sunday without my favorite newspaper comic, Monty!
