cats and more cats

Another cat print dress -- shocker!! And am I wearing cat shoes with my cat dress? You bet your kittens I am! It's an unwritten law of Catladydom that one must wear cat shoes with a cat dress. Look it up in your manual if you don't believe me ;)

Arrietty decided to get in on the outfit photo action this time (well, I lured her into the picture by dangling a mouse near the camera. potay-to, potah-to.) Her anniversary is coming up sort of soon and I'll do a whole big birthday post but can I just say how much I absolutely adore this cat? She loves to snuggle and trots after me around the apartment when I move from room to room. She caught me so off-guard... when I adopted her I knew that I was capable of caring for and loving another cat after Hypatia but I really didn't expect to get such a wonderful little buddy.

Just look at this face and that big fluffy tail. She's a keeper.

saturday favorites

I'm in love with these kitty cat shoes! Not only are they so much more affordable than most feline footwear (only $20!) but they're 100% man-made, so they're vegan approved :) They're available here in three colors, too!

I was never super interested in lookbook photos before, but I've been seeing some really lovely ones popping up on pinterest lately. This one from Dahlia is my favorite... the scalloped pinafore seals the deal, obviously, but I also love the sixties styling and dreamy filters. (ps. Dahlia is giving away a season's wardobe and the contest ends March 31st so hurry over and enter if you didn't yet! :)

I also love this lookbook from Young Sinners! The collection is SO fantastically sixties and I'm dying over this raincoat and umbrella. I saw a similar raincoat at Target like three years ago and have been kicking myself for not buying it ever since.

Cotton candy, mermaids and pastel colors = lookbook perfection! I love the new collection from She and Reverie and the lookbook captures the breezy summery feel perfectly.

Somebody scanned an old Delias catalog and it's basically the best thing ever. I wish so much I hadn't thrown out all of my old ones, it would be so fun to look through them now! Every once in a while I check ebay but nobody ever has any for sale.

Yay, finally!! A fit and flare 100% cotton galaxy print dress! *commence dancing, cartwheels and high fives!* I cannot WAIT to get this and wear it to the planetarium.

I love the pictures from Danielle's latest post! If you don't already read Ghosts Waltz, definitely check it out. Danielle is a sweetheart, a talented artist and I think (if it's possible) she loves pastels even more than I do! ;)

Potatoes! Bread! Truth.

This is basically my ideal kitchen. I love the colors, the pale blue fridge, the mint green lamps, the wallpaper, everything! I can just imagine sitting here each morning, eating belgian waffles, drinking grapefruit juice and planning out my day. *sigh*

Did I say belgian waffles? I meant pancake pops. Definitely pancake pops. How amazing are these little guys? I love pancakes, but not in huge servings like they usually come in restaurants (or even at home, no matter how much I alter the recipe I still end up with enough to feed an army) so these seem like the perfect solution! Recipe here.

I wish this was mine! I always end up painting my appliances (much to the horror of my brother who thinks sleek and shiny, black and silver is the only acceptable appearance for any kind of electronics) but this would be pretty darn amazing.

This has to be the best clutch ever. I know it's a teensy bit pathetic that I always plan out where to wear things before I even buy them, but I would LOVE to bring this to the art museum! And then take outfit pictures next to a Lichtenstein.

Last but definitely not least -- the Space Jam website is still up, and it's exactly the same as it was in 1996. It's like a little time capsule!!

DIY cat toe shoes

I have a DIY guest post on Kittenhood today! Click here to go check it out!

Materials needed: Shoes (preferably plain with a round-toe and enough room at the front for a cap-toe effect), black paint, brushes, masking tape, white paint and a white marker pen if you don't have a very steady hand with a brush.

First, tape off the tops of the shoes. Really press hard on the tape so that none of your paint will seep through.

Paint the tops of the shoes black. I did three coats to get a really opaque color but I also wasn't using the best acrylic paint lol. If you're using a quality brand name paint one coat should do the trick!

When the paint is dry, peel off the tape and add little triangles for ears. You can use painters tape for this too if you aren't good with freehand.

For the eyes, I put a straight-pin in the eraser of a pencil to make a little dotting tool! Dip this lightly in the white paint, and add your eyes. If you mess up, you can always paint over it with black and try again :) To make my cats have some more character, I went back and added a second little black dot in the corner of the white to give the illusion that the cats are looking off to the side.

Using an opaque white paint marker -- or a fine brush and white paint -- add whiskers and a nose!

And voila! Pretty little cat toe shoes. If you want a more subtle cat look, you can always skip the face and just have the ears, which would be cute too! You can also play around with the colors and maybe even paint a tail on the back of the shoe!

friday favorites

I love this photo from Polly's blog! (Also: the pink coat!!! eep!)

I think this is one of the most clever ideas ever! An astroturf purse! I would love to get this and wear it with my sunny day outfit. It also reminds me of this picnic basket idea!

Pink polka dotted cat shoes. Need I say more?!

Speaking of shoes, BAIT Footwear is releasing their spring line this week and to say I'm in love would be the understatement of the year. So far the only ones I see up on the site are the pink ones, but I'm dying to get my hands on the mint and cornflower blue ones too!!

Did you see Helen Mirren dyed her hair pink? Coolest thing ever! I hope so badly that my hair turns white (or at least light grey) when I'm older so that I can dye it fun colors without all the hassle of bleach. My genetics seem to point towards having dark hair FOREVER though, darn it!

Anthropologie has a grapefruit sweater!! A grapefruit sweater! It's a little (okay, a lot!) out of my price range though so I might DIY it. I think I owe it to my undying love of grapefruit juice to own at least one piece of grapefruit clothing.

I love this print of foods from The Office! I definitely need one for my bedroom.. it would be a much subtler (and cuter!) way of paying tribute to my favorite tv show than the poster I currently have hanging up (you can see it creeping in the background of the close-up in this outfit post.) And the mixed berry yogurt will always make me smile :)

Speaking of The Office, did you see the Dunder Mifflin products at Quill? They started selling Dunder Mifflin paper last year (of course I bought a whole box!) but this year they added legal pads, post-its, markers and legal boxes! I'm so excited!!

A Ross Gellar brooch! I love it! I wish Friends would start streaming somewhere so I could watch it constantly like I do The Office and The X-Files. I have the whole series on DVD but I've gotten so spoiled by netflix instant that I hardly ever pull out my discs anymore.

Speaking of instant streaming, from Feb. 14th to Feb. 18th all of the Criterion movies on hulu are free for everyone! If you have some free time I highly recommend checking some of them out! Some of my personal favorites that they're streaming are Jules et Jim, Daisies, Elevator to the Gallows, The Seventh Seal, Stagecoach, Monsieur Verdoux, Vivre Sa Vie, La Strada, Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Earrings of Madame De... and Orpheus.

This service is so cool! You upload your photographs and they turn them into a viewfinder slide, plus you get a viewfinder to.. well.. view them! I'm thinking of getting one of these made for my dad's 60th birthday in April!

My dream home would definitely have a spiral staircase, extra points if it's pink (who am I kidding, if it wasn't pink to begin with I'd probably paint it!) Honestly I think if my future home doesn't come with one of these, I'm installing one... even if it's a one story flat and the staircase is purely decorative. It just needs to be there.

here kitty kitty

My other last-purchase-for-2012 was a grab bag from Emerging Thoughts that includes two pieces selected at random. Mine wasn't *quite* random... Lauren knows I'm a little (okay, a lot) obsessed with cats so she included this adorable Dear Creatures kitty top as one of my two surprises! eep! Isn't it the cutest?! My collection of feline-themed apparel is getting quite impressive, so it's nearly impossible for me to wear just one cat item without accenting it with at least two others. In this case, a wooden cat brooch from my sweet and lovely shop and kitty shoes that I got for my birthday!

Also, yesterday me and my dad went to Yougurtland for the first time and it's absolutely amazing. Has anyone else been there? It reminded me of a modern dessert-only automat. I got the grapefruit guava sorbet and mixed in fresh kiwi, strawberries and shredded coconut. It was SO delicious! And I love that you get to control your portions... I can never eat the heaping servings of frozen treats that most ice cream places give you (although plop a pound of potatoes in front of me and I can tackle that with no problem lol) so it was nice to only pay for what I'd actually eat!

cat shoes, awkward poses and being too tired to think of a good title

This is my "trying not to fall over while I get a good shot of my cat shoes while simultaneously itching my neck" pose. Pretty glamorous, I know. I was in a hurry yesterday, trying to get some quick pictures before zipping out the door, and when I looked at the shots later this was the only one that was semi-presentable... oh well, it happens :)

I have been SO busy the last week or two... I'm leaving for Disney World on Tuesday (and I have a party and day trip coming up this weekend) so I've been rushing to get as much as possible done before Saturday. I still have a bunch of orders to pack today*, and I have an exciting project I've been working on for Emma that I'm hoping to post later today (tomorrow at the latest!) Also: emails. Goodness gracious am I behind on those. I'm ashamed to admit this, but I haven't even *looked* at my e-mails in about a week. YIKES!

Hopefully I'm going to tackle those tonight. Then maybe I'll finally get around to packing and figuring out what I'm going to wear for nine days... I'm so excited to be leaving in 4 days but I feel like I need twice as much time to get everything I have to do done. Maybe I need this vacation more than I realize...

*by the by, if you're thinking of buying anything from Flapper Doodle or Sweet and Lovely and need that order soon, Nov. 10th is the last day to place an order in time for it to ship before I leave. All orders placed from Nov. 11th on will not ship until I get back on the 22nd.
