life .. uh .. finds a way

Happy Jurassic World Day!!

I know that Jeff Goldblum doesn't apparently have a lot of screen time but to be honest I'm looking forward to seeing Dr. Ian Malcolm again more than anything else in this movie lol! I'm sure I'm not alone on that, right? I'm also excited about the dinosaurs, obviously, but even the little nod to Malcolm with the book sitting on Jake Johnson's desk in the first Jurassic World was the highlight of that movie for me. I'm a little disappointed that they didn't re-release the first one for the 25th anniversary this year, but there IS a brand new installment in the series out today so I need to just be happy about that and stop whining ;)

If you haven't checked out my Jurassic Park accessories in a while, definitely take a peek in my shop here. I've added a lot over the last two years! I have so many pins that it was a little hard trying to choose which one to go with for the themed outfit today, but ultimately it wasn't much of a contest -- Future Ex Mrs. Malcolm won hands down! It's my personal favorite of my Jurassic Park pins, especially because I think the idea of making an mosquito-trapped-in-amber engagement ring was pretty clever (girl.)

This week I went to see Jurassic World for the second time and, as usual, I had to dress for the occasion. (I posted my first Jurassic World outfit on instagram, here, before I had started blogging again) I don't love this movie quite as much as Jurassic Park but it's so fun and all of the easter eggs they threw in for fans of the original film made me embarrassingly weepy, ugh. Also, CHRIS PRATT. I've liked him ever since he was on Everwood a long time ago (and of course as Andy Dwyer) so it's just surreal and so exciting that he finally gets to be the big movie star he always should have been. YAY CHRIS! (Although, I should add, as much as I adore Chris Pratt, my favorite character in the movie is definitely Jake Johnson's Lowery.)

Like any good Jurassic Park fan, I liked to be bedecked in dinosaurs from head to toe. This dress is actually one of my favorites EVER. It fits great, it has pockets, and, oh, did I mention, DINOSAURS! I like that it's subtle from far away but once you look up close you realize it has the best novelty print of all time.

And like any good Jurassic Park fan who also makes her own jewelry, of course I had to make some stuff for the movie. My favorite is the Clever Girl brooch (these are hand painted and available in four colors, plus black and white) but I went a little overboard and made like eight different brooches and a necklace plus some artwork because I am just THAT big of a fan. If you're interested you can take a peek at all of my Jurassic Park/World stuff here.

On Saturday I went to see Jurassic Park in 3D for the second time (I also went with my brother on the day it opened) and it was just as fun! I really think if I had the money I would go see it a hundred times before it leaves theaters.

I've been feeling a little under the weather since I got back from vacation (I swear it seems like I can't go away anymore without coming back with a bug!) Luckily it just seems to be draining my energy and nothing more, but considering my trip already set me back a week on tackling my to-do list, spending all my waking hours in a sleepy haze isn't helping much. I'm so behind on my e-mails it's actually embarrassing. Like I'm actually ashamed to even be replying at this point because I'm pretty sure everyone will be mad that I took so long to reply. I'll probably tackle them today or tomorrow anyway though!

I have another busy couple of weeks coming up.. I can't believe I haven't mentioned this yet but I bought VIP tickets to The Office wrap party in Scranton next weekend! I'll be going to a party with some of the cast and crew (!!!!) and then the tickets also include the best seats to a Q&A with the writers the next day and a huge farewell event at PNC field with the cast. I'm so excited it's ridiculous! I'll definitely take lots of pictures and blog about it!

ps. I couldn't get a better picture of my shirt (after this one was snapped the wind started gusting like crazy and I gave up) but it's a brontosaurus with "vegetarian" written underneath! I got it at the Animal Kingdom in Disney on my trip last year but I found it online here :)

friday favorites

I love this Jurassic Park poster from Jeff Langevin on etsy.

This is a super cool and incredibly easy DIY to make a classy dinosaur knick-knack!

This neon dinosaur planter from crazy couture on etsy is so awesome!

Are you beginning to sense a theme here? ;)

This DIY toothbrush holder for kids is fantastic. Hopefully I'm not the only one who saw this and thought "um, for kids? what about for me?" ;)

Dinosaur track cookies! Yum!! Recipe here.

A Jurassic Park tank top from forever 21! I'd probably size down and wear it tucked into a skirt with a cardigan... of course.

Mental Floss has a really neat article about developments in what we know about dinosaurs since Jurassic Park came out. I think it's interesting that the producers of the next JP movie coming out next year are choosing to go with series continuity over scientific fact. In my opinion, adding feathers to some of the dinosaurs would be in keeping with Dr. Grant's theories, so updating the dinosaurs would actually be more faithful to the original film.

This is such a cool art print! Right now the only dinosaur they have is the Stegosaurus.. I hope the artist eventually does a whole series, I think it would make for a really neat art display.

A T-Rex pen. You write with his tail!!

Going to see Jurassic Park at the movies just wouldn't be complete without some dinosaur accessories right? I'm planning on wearing this T-Rex fossil necklace from sweet and lovely :)

Pin the tiny arms on the t-rex! I've had this in my ideas notebook for the longest time but finally whipped it up this week, seeing as how it was so time appropriate ;)

If you search for dinosaurs on google like 90% of the top results tend to be for kids. Which is totally okay, I just wanted something to pore over that didn't have a cartoon dinosaur helping me to decide what facts to excavate next. This mini-site on the BBC has tons of information, artwork and links to even more information and artwork. If you have some time take a peek, if not it's definitely worth bookmarking to look at later!

And this is just ridiculously cute.
