a photo an hour

At the end of April I took pictures for my first photo-an-hour post... here they are!

10am: the view when I open my eyes every morning ♥

11am: packing some flapper doodle orders!

12pm: Communiversity street fair in Princeton! I used to exhibit my art here, but the last 2 years I've just gone as a visitor and I've enjoyed it so much!

1pm: Kyle thought it would be fun to take a picture of my tiger ring (c/o modcloth) in front of the Princeton Tigers at Nassau Hall! (ps. I dyed the tips of my hair pink... I think it looks really cool in the milkmaid braids!)

2pm: Goofing around while taking outfit pictures! I'll post the outfit tomorrow :)

3pm: Lunch at Zorba's Grill. Not the best photo, but it was so yummy! I got hummus with pita bread, and spanakopita.

4pm: Wandering around Princeton. This is the window to a landmark Princeton restaurant that recently closed :( When you peek inside the windows you can see they gutted the whole building, only the facade is still standing.

5pm: Buying some used books at the Princeton library (I also picked some up for The Book Fair that I'll be listing later today!)

6pm: Sitting/standing around eating ice cream from The Bent Spoon

7pm: I came home to find some goodies waiting for me on the porch! yay!

8pm: I spent way too much time playing dress up with said goodies...

9pm: We were all too lazy to cook so my dad went out and got Panera for dinner. I could live on their tomato soup! My local restaurant is opening a drive-thru, so now that I won't have to physically go in the store I really might be living on it soon.

10pm: X-Files time!

11pm: Back to bed to read for a little bit and relax with my kitties before getting some shut-eye :)

my last day of pink

I wore this last Monday for a day-trip to Princeton with my family. It's an annual birthday tradition... we eat lunch at Panera (I am OBSESSED with their tomato soup right now) then me and Kyle go to Princeton Record Exchange and sit on the floor sifting through the $1 records for a couple hours. This year we added a trip to the library to check out the discount book sale, where I got a side-eye from the cashier thanks to my lovely selection of books about plagues, the philosophy of death, and the end of the universe. Real light, happy fare ;)

Then me and my mom ran in a consignment shop. I guess it's typical of me that amongst all the expensive name brand stuff the only thing that struck my fancy was a blazer from Old Navy, haha! It's black velvet with a big bow-tie at the waist. It wasn't even my size but somehow it fit, so I snagged it! :D

After that we went to Olive Garden for dinner. I tried the bruschetta for the first time and OH MY GOODNESS it's amazing! I think I might have eaten the whole appetizer without sharing. In addition to two helpings of salad, some breadsticks, pasta and dessert. Yup. A lot of people knock Olive Garden, but I love it. It's definitely better than a stale peanut butter sandwich at home, that's all I know ;)

sunshine on a cloudy day

After dinner on Father's Day we went to Princeton for dessert, and then sat around the fountain on the University campus until about 10pm. It was SUCH a nice evening! There weren't too many people at the fountain, so it was really quiet and peaceful, just listening to the water trickling and birds flying around the trees nearby.

For dessert we went to Thomas Sweet on Nassau Street. The shoppe smells SO good inside, and they have one of those wacky mirrors that makes you look really short and wide -- and it's actually from a Fun House in the 1930's! It's pretty neat to think that people have been laughing at themselves in this mirror for over 75 years! :)

ps! I did a re-design for Andi's blog! Take a peek here! :)

On Saturday we spent the day in Princeton to celebrate my dad's 58th birthday! Every year at the end of April the university has a festival called Communiversity, and this was our first year going as visitors instead of vendors. From 2004-2010 I was selling my artwork, but since I gave up doing outdoor shows last year we were finally able to experience the festival and take our time strolling around. My favorite part are the tables on campus where International students represent their countries with information, food and souvenirs. After we were done walking around, we just wandered around the campus, ending up at a beautiful garden near the art museum. I put together this little video using the 8mm app on my iphone (soooo glad Diana blogged about this, it's now my favorite app!) The song is Little Bird by Goldfrapp.

My dad's mother, my dad, me and my brother were all born in Princeton so it's always nice when one of us decides to spend our birthday there.. to be back at the beginning, everything feels right.

You have an unlimited budget for your next birthday celebration. How do you spend it?

Happy Pi Day!

Why yes, I do venture outdoors once in a while ;-) Me and my family spent the day in Princeton for their annual Pi Day festivities, which celebrate pi (3.14), pie (the food) and Albert Einstein, Princeton's most famous resident, who was born on March 14th! It was so much fun!

We got off to a late start and missed the pie eating contest that my brother was going to enter, so I bought him an entire large pizza pie and we all took bets on whether or not he'd be able to finish it. He actually ate the whole pie in 27 minutes! :-O Me and my dad won... although I did bet that he'd eat the whole thing, I really didn't expect him to! It was A LOT of pizza!

One of my favorite parts of the day was visiting the house on Witherspoon Street where my dad spent his childhood. There's a bench outside the building in the alleyway, and I got some really lovely pictures of my parents setting together there. I think they're my favorite photos of them EVER. They were goofing off, and their smiles are just so genuine. The yellow doorway I'm standing in below was also part of my grandparents' property. I wish it was still in the family.. I've never lived there myself, but it just feels like home!

Add Panera, a visit to Princeton Record Exchange (I walked away with a Marianne Faithfull lp and a record of Robert Donat reading TS Elliot's cat poetry!) and the day was absolutely perfect.
