young at heart

The last few outfit posts I felt like I had absolutely nothing to write about and today I feel like I have too much! First of all -- this dress! I got it in the modcloth sale last month (it's still 50% off right here!) I had my eye on it for a while but I held off because I wasn't sure if the shape would work for me, but I absolutely love it in person. It's a light sweater material, thick enough to be flattering but light enough for hotter weather. I'm really smitten.

Secondly - the glasses! I've been flirting with the idea of getting contacts lately, since I seem to need my glasses more and more but I don't really like wearing them all the time. But then I got these glasses and I think I'll put off the contacts for a while longer. The pink matches my hair PERFECTLY. It's insane. And awesome.

Thirdly - I went to see North by Northwest on the big screen last night and it was one of the best things ever. Cary Grant is so stinking handsome, and somehow he gets even MORE handsome when his face is 20 feet tall. Plus it's one of my favorite Hitchcock movies AND it was actually playing in Princeton! Usually I end up taking the train to New York whenever I want to see a classic film, but this was right in my own backyard! If you're local, The Garden Theater is under new management and they're playing classics twice a week now all summer long. It's so exciting!

And last but not least, my good friend and one of my favorite singers, Emma Wallace has a new album out and it's already my favorite. It's so good! It's inspired by Peter Pan and celtic music and it's just so sweet and perfect. You can download it for only $4.99 right here. If you haven't heard any of her songs yet, I promise you're in for a treat! :)

a first time for everything

My first outfit photo in my new place! I only have one wall left to paint and a couple small projects to complete before I can start moving in my furniture. I've been over there every day hurrying to get things finished. I didn't realize how incredibly time-intensive and stressful moving can be! There is SO much to be done, so many things I have to spend money on that I don't want to (hello there, microwave) and so many normal day-to-day responsibilities that are hard to keep up with when all of your stuff is in limbo. eek! Hopefully I'll be able to wrap everything up this week and get settled. I really can't wait to get the cats over there and see them inspecting everything. A house just isn't a home until there are little furry babies running around in it! :)

I just got these new glasses in the mail this week and I love them so much.. they remind me of the ones Marilyn Monroe wore in How to Marry a Millionaire (one of my favorite movies, by the way!) I've had prescription glasses for over a year but it's taking me a while to get used to wearing them regularly. Mostly because I've had a hard time finding frames that I like. I've acquired a bit of a collection after ordering a lot online, but these and this blue pair are the only ones I've felt comfortable in. These are from London Retro... they have a lot of nice old-fashioned styles to choose from so I have a feeling I'll be going back for more at some point. Right now they have a collection inspired by the London Underground, with each pair named after a different station. Pretty nifty! :)

jeepers creepers

For 25 years I had absolutely perfect vision, but then I suppose way too much up-close computer and illustration work finally took its toll. Earlier this year, for the first time in my life, I had to buy glasses. As you can imagine, I didn't want plain normal frames, lol. I've tested out a few pair over the last several months and so far these are definitely my favorites! I love the color SO much! And you know, they help me to see better, so that's a plus ;)

These particular frames are from firmoo. Like coastal, they have a first-pair-free offer, but honestly their prices are really affordable even if you're going back for seconds (which I already did). I'm being kind of stubborn at the moment -- I know I need the glasses to see well but I'm still refusing to wear them constantly. So I have a pair on the coffee table for watching tv, a pair in my purse and a pair in my bedroom. I'm *this* close to just wearing them all the time, but after a quarter century of 20/20 they're still taking some getting used to! At least I finally found frames that I'm comfortable with, though. It's a step in the right direction :)

I had no idea what to do for fanfic, so I changed it to a collection :)

When I was little I wanted to have glasses so desperately that I used to lie during my eye exams and say different letters than the ones that were being displayed on the chart. I guess the doctors always caught on or something, because I never got glasses. As recently as a few years ago I'd hope so badly when I showed up at the eye doctors that they'd tell me I was just a little less than 20/20 and could finally get some specs.

Thankfully fake glasses caught on during the last year or so, and I've been stocking up like mad. They're bound to go out of style soon, so I need to hoard them while I can. It's one accessory that I absolutely adore, and despite my earnest attempts at cheating for cheaters, I'm kind of glad that I can finally wear them AND still have 20/20. Very win-win.
