the hypatia dress - take five (plus a coupon!)

This last one is pretty simple but I love it! It reminds me of the outfit I wore my first night at the Office wrap party back in May (I even wore the same belt) so it has happy memories attached :) I was thinking of this as a posh frock friday outfit and even added a small crinoline under the skirt to give it a little extra volume. If you're on the fence about getting your own Hypatia dress I have some good news -- Ever + Mi Crush is offering 20% off with code "Hypatia" If you get one (or already got one!) and post outfit pictures anywhere please let me know! I'd love to see!! :)

Today is pretty nerve-wracking for me -- I put in an application for my first apartment and today I'll be finding out whether or not I was approved. ahh! It's actually in the same apartment complex that my grandmom has lived in since I was four so it feels a bit like home already. I got to tour my potential unit yesterday and it just feels so perfect. I'd actually have a real honest to goodness bedroom again with a separate space for work. I can't even imagine going to sleep in a room dedicated to slumber -- not surrounded by all of my pending projects and work-related stress. Fingers crossed!!!! eep!

the hypatia dress - take four

This is probably my favorite way to wear any dress (a statement that is probably pretty obvious to anyone who peruses my outfit post archive) -- with a cardigan. I love that the sleeves on this cardigan are just the right length to show off the little bell at the end of the dress sleeves. I've written sleeves too much now and it's starting to get that "is that even a real word?" thing. Sleeves... sleeves...

I took all these pictures last week so you can't tell yet but I chopped off a lot of my hair yesterday! It's about chin length now! I always try to grow it out but it just never works for me. I have really thick wavy hair that knots easily (literally seconds after I comb it, it's knotty again. argh!) and every time it gets to a certain length I just lose patience and need to cut it. I tried pincurling it today and I love how it turned out! I've spent my entire life wearing it in some kind of updo but I think it might be time to try wearing it down. (Also -- cat legs peeking out behind me again! Did you spot them?)

the hypatia dress - take three

Am I boring you guys with these? I'm pretty sure in retrospect I should have done all five outfits in one post but now that I've started doing one a day I feel like I need to continue. I'm just so excited about the dress I wanted to stretch it out as long as possible lol :) I can't even describe how thrilling it is to see these for sale. I mean, I've sewn my own dresses before but they're usually pretty simple beginner-level cotton frocks. To see this design come to life, with intricate details I'd have no clue how to sew at home myself... it's just amazing.

Anyway! This is my second favorite outfit of the batch (first favorite being this one.) I'm having fun seeing how different colors go with my new purple hair. I'd had normal colored hair for about a year and I almost forgot how bright colored tresses end up being a part of your outfit! I really love how the purple, red and orange all look together here though.

the hypatia dress - take two

This week I'm styling my Hypatia dress five different ways! At first glance I think it can seem a little dressy, but it also works really well in more casual outfits. Paired with a denim shirt and brown flats it's just as suitable for the grocery store as it is for a fancy little shindig ;) And I love that you can still see a tiny bit of the scalloped collar with the two matching buttons peeking out at the top!

Also do you spy Arrietty? She was hanging out on my table while I shot most of my Hypatia dress outfit pictures so she'll be popping up in the pictures all week :) I think it kind of looks like I have cat legs growing out of my hip lol

the hypatia dress - take one

This week I have 5 outfit posts planned with my Hypatia Dress, each one styled a completely different way. I know the old adage goes "save the best for last" but I couldn't wait to share this particular ensemble, I just love it so much!! I paired the dress with a plain black skirt, a pink fabric bow belt and pink pumps. I've had some pink-white-and-black vintage dresses hanging out in my etsy favorites forever (see the bottom of this page) and I think this definitely echoes that style, albeit slightly more casual than the dresses I was coveting.

Really though, you could do hundreds of variations on this with any number of skirts and belts. Layering skirts over dresses is a super easy way to change them up (and the dresses, at least for me, seem to stay tucked in much better than shirts do!) And most of the detail on this dress is up at the top anyway, so you don't really lose any of that when you add the skirt! :)

stupendously exciting announcement!!

The dress that I designed earlier this year for Dahlia is now available for sale exclusively at Ever + Mi Crush!! It's available in sizes small, medium and large in limited quantities, so if you're interested in snagging one, hurry hurry hurry! ;)

I'm so excited about this!! As I said in my original post about the dress, I had thought the dress was going to be available to purchase and was slightly heartbroken when I found out it wasn't. Then Christen from Ever + Mi Crush swooped in to the rescue and arranged this wonderful exclusive limited run! It's been so much fun working together and I'm so excited about this collaboration!! :D

The dress is a beautiful cream color with a warm grey lining, double layered scalloped collar and sheer bell sleeves. It comes with a matching cream belt with a warm grey buckle and pretty grey buttons on the collar.

As an added bonus, the first 10 orders will all receive a signed print of my original design sketch! The dress was inspired by Hypatia; her warm grey and light cream coloring, her fragile beauty, and her innate sweetness. Ever + Mi Crush named the dress after her, too -- it's called The Hypatia Dress!

This is my inspiration board for the dress. My main concept was creating something that looked like vintage but would actually fit (oh how many times I've shed a tear over a pretty vintage dress on etsy that had a 23" waist) Also since it's a neutral (well, a combination of neutrals - grey and cream) it can be remixed in a bunch of different combinations.

Which leads me to my next fun surprise -- I'm going to have 5 outfit posts next week with 5 different ways to wear the dress. Of course I think it's lovely on its own with a pair of pink flats, but this little number can also be styled in so many different ways! One of my favorite things about it is that it has unique details (like the collar and matching belt) that make it work without any added accessories, but they're subtle enough that you can add on layers and punches of color without it being too much :)

You can check out the dress (and the other pretty goodies Ever + Mi Crush has to offer!) over here! They also have Dear Creatures dresses on sale for only $30. Just saying ;)
