apartments and laptops

First things first -- I got the apartment!! ahh! I was a complete nervous wreck all day yesterday waiting for them to call me. I've been feeling under the weather a bit the last couple of days and I think the anxiety might have pushed me over the edge into "actually sick" territory, but knowing I got the apartment makes up for it lol. I get to move in REALLY soon, too! I'm already planning paint colors (they said I could paint as long as I change it back to white again before I move out. yay!) and layout schemes. I'll finally be putting all these pins to good use, ha!

In non-apartment-related news, a little while ago I got to try out a sample of a caseable laptop sleeve. They're handmade cases made in Brooklyn, NY from green materials, and you get to customize them with your own images! So I uploaded one of my vintage bedding patterns that I designed for Kitschy Digitals, and I absolutely LOVE how it turned out! The design looks even better on the fabric than it did on my computer and the blue zipper matches perfectly.

It's a nice substantial case, too, so I feel like my laptop is actually protected. And it fits over my pink speck case! I've gone through three laptops in the last five years because of accidents so I feel like I need all the extra protection I can get!

If you want to try making your own case you can get 20% off with the code "brilliantpromo" You can upload any photos or patterns that you want to make it your own (how cute would it be with a giant close-up of your pet?!) -- or if you're interested in having the exact same case as me, you can get that one here! It defaults to a macbook air 11" since that's what I purchased but you can edit the size that you need in the drop down menu :)

so long, old friend.

I just got back from Best Buy where I received some very unfortunate news... my laptop is dead :( I lent it to my brother a few weeks ago after the laptop he had been using broke (which he was only using because HIS laptop broke in December. I should have seen this coming, right?) and it stopped working a few days ago.

I'm super fortunate to have a desktop mac too, so I'm not totally lost. But it's frustrating and sad, nonetheless. This was my first apple computer, and the one that I used to launch Flapper Doodle and this blog. In fact, 99% of my blog posts were written on this computer. My desktop is primarily where I work on my etsy store, but each night I'd get cozy in bed with some lemon cookies, Hypatia and this laptop and type up my posts for the next day.

Etsy sales permitting, I'll be replacing it pretty soon... but since it was such a big part of this blog and my life, I thought my little laptop deserved a farewell post.

overloaded

My little usb hub has reached its limit, so I'm on the hunt for a new one again. I'll be needing an extra port for my fourth (yup, fourth) external hard drive. I swear, I don't know how I use these up so quickly.

I'm smitten with all the cute usb hubs out there, but I think the sixth one -- ugly but useful -- will probably be the one I end up with.

Aphrodite hub (Fred Flare) / Tulip hub (Fred Flare)

Cassette hub (Perpetual Kid) / Flexible hub (Perpetual Kid)

Tardis hub (ThinkGeek) / 24 port hub (ThinkGeek)
Not actually a Dr. Who fan, but I threw that in for anyone who is ;-)

While I was searching "USB" everywhere, I came across these two gadgets that aren't ports, but deserved a mention nonetheless... that microphone is a usb radio (!!!!) and the wooden block is a 500GB external hard drive -- so much more appealing than the black or silver plastic ones hiding behind my monitor! They're from funUSB and etsy, respectively :)
