Scalloped edge purse DIY

I saw this scalloped lace trim at the craft store a while back, and although I was positive I wanted to use it for *something* I had no idea what exactly. Then while sorting through some of my old bags, I stumbled upon this tan one from H&M last year and thought it would make for a fun DIY project! It's so nice to revamp an old item that you completely forgot about! :)

1. Gather your materials. You'll need: A bag, embroidery floss, a needle and scalloped (or something equally pretty) trim. 2. Beginning at the corner of the bag, start to attach the trim. I tried lining up my stitches with the existing stitching on the bag, and I matched the embroidery floss to the color of the thread. 3. If you're using lace, it's easy to just thread the floss through the holes in the trim, for consistent stitches. 4. When you get to a corner, gather the trim a bit as you go along. I didn't do this on my first try and had to take out all of my stitches because when I closed the bag, the lace was way too tight on the corners! I think the gathering makes it look even prettier, too :) When you get to the end, just knot your thread and voila! A brand new bag!

it's in the bag

So, here's my 'what's in my bag' post! Nothing especially exciting, but I had a lot of fun doing it anyway lol :)

Moving clockwise from the top I have sunglasses from Urban Outfitters; "My kingdom for a wintergreen mint" Shakespearean mint tin (in which I keep aspirin) from the Art Gallery of Ontario; "Anti-Establish-mint" mint tin (in which I keep trident original gum) from the Unemployed Philosopher's Guild; my green ipod shuffle; my new iphone with a Eureka background ftw!; my telephone case (it's a telephone booth.. get it? ha ha) from CBSew on etsy; a glittery pink heart wallet from 5 and below; my pink Canon powershot; a little camera case with kitties on it; my favorite green Sony headphones; Nine Stories by JD Salinger (I always carry this specific book because I can re-read the stories a million times.. I keep my 'currently reading' book at home next to my bed); and finally, an allergic girl's best friend -- kleenex!

All tucked neatly inside my new favorite handbag from urban outfitters :-)

bag bag leroy brown

First, can I just say how much I hate having to come up with blog titles? ergh.

I know I had my mind set on getting a blue bag, but when I saw this one on urban outfitters I couldn't resist. It's *exactly* what I wanted, albeit not blue.. but this color obviously has its perks. It will go with everything, and it's good for dressing up or down. The blue ones were probably too casual and would clash with most of my outfits.

Urban Outfitters is seriously my favorite place to get bags. Since 2006 I've had 2 purses that I carry around non-stop, and both came from UO. The braided one I've been carrying around for a couple years now is still in perfect condition, but it was really just way too big for the little amount I tote with me. I wanted something a little more compact, classic and streamlined, not so slouchy and baggy. This is seriously PERFECT.

The outside has a little pocket for my cell phone and wallet, and then the inside has a hinge opening, which is my very favorite kind! It's like a Mary Poppins bag.. they look really small from the outside, but once you open the hinge you realize there's absolutely tons of room inside!

I just ordered an iphone (thank goodness they're finally on verizon now! I've waited SOO long!) so when it arrives next week maybe I'll do one of those what's-in-my-bag things :)
