come home

The last day of my art show was definitely better than the first two, so I'm not super disappointed. If I had known I'd just about break even, though, I wouldn't have chosen to wake up 5 hours earlier than usual three days in a row, lol! But I did have a nice time, and it was worth a shot! You never know until you try, right?

I am so worn out though! I think I'm going to be irresponsible and leave my piles of pending work until tomorrow so I can spend all day on the couch recuperating and watching a marathon of the new Arrested Development episodes!

ps. kind of random, but does anyone else ever find that the posts you love are the ones nobody else seems to? Like if you absolutely love an outfit, nobody really comments on it. But when you're like "ugh, I have nothing else to post so I might as well throw up this ugly outfit post that I hated" everyone else seems to love it? It happens to me so often, I'm just curious if anyone else has the same pattern :)

backwards buttons

I really, really love this outfit! Also, I wore the shirt backwards all day and didn't realize until I took it off at night. I think it looks pretty cute with the buttons in the front though so I'll probably wear it backwards on purpose next time ;)

This weekend I'm doing my first art show in two years! I used to do outdoor art exhibits full time until Flapper Doodle took off, but I'm way off my game now. Most of my setup supplies were strewn about in the basement (while my bedroom might reach Martha Stewart levels of organization my basement is like Martha's worst nightmare) and I've been going crazy trying to find everything I need... even really important things like original paintings and prints. Whoops! I think after this show I'm going to get a storage unit to store everything in (neatly) so I'm better prepared for the next show.

Disorganization aside, I'm really excited and I'm having so much fun getting ready! I think I've done more paintings this week than I have in the last two years combined. And I love it :)

ps. I finished up a blog design last night for Danielle from Hello Cat Lady and I love how it came out! You can check it out (and follow her, she's a sweetheart!) over here.

posh frock friday

dress - modcloth
sunglasses - modcloth
belt - old navy
shoes - target
locket - handmade
bag - h&m

I wore this on the first day of the show. I know it's nothing original, and I wear this dress way too often, but it's my favorite! :D I swear I could have hundreds of dresses and I'd still wear the same three or four on rotation soo much more than the rest. Especially this one.. Oh, by the by I saw it's back in stock on modcloth again so seriously, snatch it up if you've been eyeing it! I swear it's the best dress EVER.

On the first day I was interviewed for a Japanese tv piece about the art show. I don't know if you can really tell from my blog writing, but I'm INCREDIBLY shy and terribly awkward when I have to talk to people I don't know (I guess this is responsible for my pitiful commenting skills as well). When they asked me what my goal in life was, I answered "to make a living selling my artwork so I can spend more time with my cats." *facepalm* Luckily they didn't include that particular part in the segment, but I still feel like an idiot lol :) Here's the link if you want to see it! I'm on about 3 minutes in.

ps! Gee is doing a giveaway for a $25 gift certificate to my etsy shop, Flapper Doodle, to celebrate her one year blog anniversary!! You can enter HERE :)

Do you want to comment, but have no idea what to say? Trust me, I've been there! So to make things a little easier, here is a question you can answer if you can't think of anything else to say! :)

Cake or pie? (I'm a pie girl)

I had some brand new shoes

dress - le bomb shop
shoes - c/o blowfish
belt - old navy

hair bow - forever 21

This is what I wore for Day 2 of my art show. I usually take my outfit photos using my webcam on my imac (super high tech, right?) but since I obviously didn't have that with me in New York, Kyle took my pictures instead. Somehow he always makes me feel like such a goof doing this, and I end up making the weirdest faces. I swear I don't even look human in some of them (the non-human ones were promptly deleted as soon as I saw them..)

Anyway, though! I was so excited about my outfit for Day 2 because I wore my brand new Gimmik shoes from Blowfish!! My feet were killing me after the first day when I wore my favorite Target flats, and even though my other Blowfish shoes are comfy, I really wasn't sure about wearing heels to walk around the city. But they were fantastic and SO comfortable! It was the first time I've worn heels out and about in a while (I usually end up making a last minute switch to flats every single time I attempt to wear high shoes out of the house) so it was odd feeling so tall! I'm only 5' so I'm used to seeing the world from a very short perspective. My dad & brother kept joking that they could finally see me with these on, they didn't have to stare down at the floor searching to find me ;-D

Oh, and I put together this little video to show my mom, since she missed the show this year, and I thought I'd post it here in case anyone is curious about what my shows are like! I did a time lapse for setting up my booth and going through the Lincoln tunnel, and of course there are the obligatory obnoxious-brother-punching-at-my-camera shots lol... I broke it up into two parts: the first is more subdued, to represent the first day of the show, which was really slow and unsuccessful, then the next two days which included winning the award and actually having some sales!

If I can make it there

dress - modcloth
flip flops - old navy

As you can probably tell from that big blue ribbon on the painting I'm holding (there's a better photo of it if you scroll down) ... my art show this weekend went pretty darn well!! I've been doing this particular show -- the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit -- since 2007, and I never in a million years thought I'd ever win first place for one of my paintings!! They have exceptionally talented people participating who submit the most intricate, mind bogglingly amazing paintings to be juried... I honestly thought they must have made some kind of mistake when they chose mine!

These photos are from the third (and last) day of the show. I made the mistake of wearing sleeveless dresses with no sunscreen on days 1 and 2, and definitely paid the price. My back and shoulders hurt if a piece of hair lightly brushes against them :p So on day 3 I went with a strapless halter dress and got even more sunburn, just to avoid any fabric touching my already roasted skin! eek!

Except for the sunburn and extreme heat, I had a really nice weekend! My mom had to stay home because she didn't feel good, but my dad, my brother and I really enjoyed ourselves. And I actually did well enough money-wise to start buying my furniture and home necessities (like these utensils!) for my move to Canada!!

Tomorrow & Friday I'll post more pictures from Days 1 and 2! And here's my 1st place painting!! :)

weekend in new york

I'm still winding down from my super long weekend in New York selling my art on the street near Washington Square Park. We left the house around 5:30 each morning, and got home around 10:00 each night. My mom and I took the train into the city each morning, then walked from Penn Station to Washington Square Park --2.5 miles!-- before spending all day sitting in direct sunlight in 90 degree weather, so I think it goes without saying that I am beyond tired.

Soooo my post about my weekend is going to have to wait until I can add 5 + 5 without the help of a calculator. (yes, I'm that tired.)

Until then, here are some snapshots from my weekend :)

I found my juice at the local market!
Unfortunately, I did not have a cup.
Fortunately, I did have a straw.

also... hot weather: 1, my bangs: 0

unfortunately, it was twice what it costs at home!
