my summer playlist

I used to share monthly playlists here when I first started my blog, but that wore off quickly when I realized that I pretty much listen to the same songs over and over again, haha! My favorites haven't changed a lot over the years but I have added some new songs to the mix and I'm really loving my itunes playlist at the moment! room tour

I'm planning on taking my own photos and doing something of a director's cut here next week (providing the sun finally comes out and lets me take pictures soon!) I didn't get to pick which things were featured in the article so a lot of my favorite knick knacks and little corners of my room didn't make the cut and I want to share those with you!! :) I'm also working on a follow-up to my storage solutions for small spaces post! yay!

I haven't actually done a room tour here in about two years and so much has changed since then! Mostly little things, but to me they make a huge difference. I should actually do a whole room evolution post since my room has changed so much over the years. At one point my walls were dark purple, my ceiling was orange and I had all dark wood furniture and jewel tone bedding. Seriously! I think my heart died a little during that period of pastel deprivation ;)

recipe: chick peas with green beans and tahini

I love change and trying new things, but honestly when I'm home the only reason I ever make something new is because I'm missing the ingredients I need to cook my usual fare. Such was the case the other day when this new recipe was born. And I loved it so much that it's going to be a regular on the menu now. Maybe one day I'll be out of green beans and their absence will spawn a new favorite dish ;)

Oh, also, I am a completely, totally, horribly lazy cook and usually use canned or frozen ingredients. If you're not as lazy as me, then this meal would probably be even more delicious with fresh veggies and herbs!

I used -- a 15oz. can of chick peas (rinsed), 1 bag of steamable green beans (cooked), 1/2 of a fresh tomato, 2 tbsp. sesame tahini, 2 tsp. dried chopped garlic (yup, I don't even use fresh garlic. I know!) 1/4 c. panko flakes, some olive oil and a little parsley. I sauteed the garlic in the olive oil for a few minutes, then tossed everything in the pan except for the tomato and parsley. Stir it every few minutes until the chick peas get a little crispy, then serve it with the fresh tomatoes and a little sprinkle of parsley on top!

If you're going to be home all day, sometimes it's nice to just skip the shoes, am I right?

Our weekend trip was very nice! We stayed in Alexandria, VA and ended up spending most of the trip there instead of Washington. We did go into the city for one day and managed to go to the Holocaust Memorial Museum and the MLK monument before heading home. They were the only two places my dad had his heart set on visiting, so once we were finished we decided to just hang around Alexandria and visit some of the local shops and restaurants. We spent a nice chunk of time in the used bookstore Book Bank, which I loved! They are having a 30% off sale on purchases over $30, so I might have brought home more books than I could carry. I think my weakness for used books might be even worse than my weakness for pretty dresses ;)
