100% that witch

Hey, long time no see! I promised you guys that in my next outfit post I'd be wearing a dress I designed and I did not mean for it to take two months but HERE IT IS!! 💁🏼‍♀️

I've had quite a lot of setbacks in the life department and, more relevantly, in the "having a room to take outfit photos in" department. The shower upstairs sprung a leak and flooded my studio several weeks ago! My pretty pink rug was ruined, my ceiling is all brown and peeling and falling apart, and I can't use my light because the water was pouring down through the fixture. The sky was literally falling, LOL! As you can tell by the grey wall-to-wall carpet here, my room still isn't back to normal yet. I actually have a replacement pink rug ready to go as soon as the contractors finish working on my studio. But I figured I'd waited long enough to share some of these dresses with you guys, so grey carpet be darned, I'm posting them!

This particular dress was the culmination of years of searching for a Halloween dress that wasn't black, dark, or orange. I wanted something really cute and pastel but also Halloween-y, so I designed it myself! I think this one is going to get a lot of wear in the next couple weeks. I also paired it with a brooch that I made (Veronica Lake from I Married a Witch with "100% that witch" written in her hat. I HAD TO DO IT.) I have my laser cutting machine up and running and I'm having so much fun coming up with new designs for it!

Oh, and I'm back to pink hair! I'm in the process of trying out a new method for dying it so that it won't be like neon pink, something a little more subtle. This was step one and I have step two sitting on my head as I'm typing this! If it all works out I'll write a little post with details about what I did :)

happy halloween!

I had no intention of dressing up for Halloween this year, but when I saw a costume of a Grady twin from The Shining at the mall the other day I thought it would be SO fun to do an outfit post with me being both twins. The costume at the mall wasn't my size, so I went on Amazon and found an Alice in Wonderland costume that worked just as well and paired it with a pink belt that I already had in my closet.

I actually came up with a really great idea for *another* costume this week too (why do I always get ideas for things at the very last minute?!) but I'm going to save it for next year so I can spend time perfecting it. It's way more obscure than this one, but I'm really excited about it.

I hope everyone has a safe and fun halloween! :D

trick or treat yourself

I got this dress last year not long after Halloween so I've been waiting so long to wear it! They don't have the sleeveless version anymore but there's a similar long sleeve one available here.

I'm still waiting on my lab test results (pretty sure I should be getting them either today or tomorrow) so earlier this week I did a tiny shopping binge so I'd have mail to look forward to all week long. I've been SO incredibly stressed out waiting for these results, and that really has helped a bit to have treated myself a little :) I also planned out so many "just for me" projects to keep me occupied. I covered my windows with privacy film, something I've been meaning to do for years. I made fabric panels for the back of my door (I'll post a picture on my instagram stories!) I painted pumpkins for the front porch, and I worked on a DIY that I'll be posting here tomorrow.

I also started listening to the My Favorite Murder podcast, and I'm so hooked! I started all the way back at the first episode (from 2016, I think) so I have a lot to catch up on. It's been tough finding media that I can get totally engrossed in without my mind wandering to my worries, but this is so gripping I've been able to give it my full attention.

Also I keep wanting to just let this go without mentioning it, but ughhhh I'm sorry about the photo quality again. The sun kept going in and out, in and out, in and out, and my settings were all messed up from me fidgeting around to keep up with the clouds.

love spider

I can't believe that I actually have this dress in my possession. I originally ordered it from Unique Vintage about a month ago, and then a week later I got a refund with a note that they had sold out and were not planning on restocking. I complained about it to Sammi, who found the dress in my size on Poshmark! So I quickly ordered that one, and then the next day the seller e-mailed me to say that she had sold it on a different platform before I bought it, so they cancelled my order too. Ahhh! Then Sammi found ANOTHER one on Poshmark. I woke up every morning anticipating a cancellation email in my inbox, but after one week it finally shipped! I fully expected it to get lost in the mail, since it seemed like me and this dress were destined to be star-crossed, but, as you can see from these photos, it did indeed arrive! Hooray!

So why was this dress so important to me? Why did I need it so desperately? It has little heart shaped spiders all over it, and that is my family "mascot." When I was little my parents used to draw heart shaped spiders on notes to me, on my lunch bag for school, etc. It's called the love spider, and it is a symbol that we all love each other. (My parents' pet name for each other is "creep" in case you were wondering why anyone would choose a spider for their family mascot that should probably give you an idea of what we're like, haha!)

I'm just so thrilled that I managed to get my hands on one of these frocks. A HUGE thank you to Sammi for tracking this down for me! I told her she should start a clothing detective agency, she's so good at finding unicorn items!

The dress is mostly sold out at Unique Vintage, except in size XL here, and 4X here. And as of right now it's also available in 2X on Poshmark here and here.

supurrnatural

This shirt was a must-have for me because it combines two of my favorite things: cats and Supernatural! Does anyone else watch the show? I love it so much I actually went to two Supernatural conventions! (I wrote about them here.) My favorite character is Castiel so when I re-watch the show I usually start at season 4 and skip 1-3, but I recently went back and started all the way at the beginning and I'm really enjoying all of the monster-of-the-week episodes that weren't part of the larger arc of the show.

This time of year I watch a lot of my favorite scary movies, like The Haunting, Cat People, Mystery of the Wax Museum, The Body Snatcher, and Scream, but I also really enjoy revisiting my favorite scary tv shows. I especially love Supernatural and Charmed. I actually just saw Alyssa Milano tweeting that this weekend was the 20th anniversary of Charmed! What!! I remember being obsessed with it in middle school. It was on the same night as my ballet class and I couldn't wait to get home and watch it! It's so hard to believe that was two decades ago now. Sheesh!!

did you hear about the spider love triangle?

It was a tangled web.

Few things scare me more than seeing a real spider in my house (or honestly even outside of my house) but when it comes to Halloween apparel, spiders and spiderwebs are two of my favorite motifs. I think I like the aesthetic of the web and the shape of illustrated and definitely not real spiders, and it's almost like the designs are a distinct, separate thing from the actual bug. I know a few people who are comfortable with picking up spiders (with their bare hands!!) and it just gives me the willies. The only spiders I'll be touching are the knitted-on-my-sweater kind, thank you very much :)
