happy leap day
Any other 30 Rock fans dressing in yellow and blue today? If not, "poke your eyes, pull your hair, you forgot what clothes to wear!"
I remember the first time I wore these pants in an outfit post (in which I also paired them with a sweater and matching bait footwear shoes. Not much has changed, aside from the fact that I clearly forgot how to pose for outfit photos somewhere along the line) it was a momentous occasion for me to be wearing anything other than a dress or skirt. Since then I've amassed quite a collection of skinny jeans, though. My favorites are the rivington jeans from ASOS. They're pretty comfy and I feel confident in them, a rare feat when 90% of your body is composed of hips. I'm not wearing them in this post though, these are old pants from forever 21 that have surprisingly survived at least a dozen closet clean-outs.
In totally unrelated news, I just installed a 100" projector screen in my bedroom! It's the kind that's mounted to the ceiling and rolls up when it's not in use, so I basically got a 100" tv screen that disappears during the day. I christened it with a screening of Plein Soleil, possibly one of the best decisions I've ever made in my entire life. The only thing better than watching Alain Delon and Maurice Ronet in Plein Soleil is watching them in Plein Soleil on a 100" screen. *fans self*

cutie pi
Guess who is designing her own dresses now!?! THIS GIRL!
As of today it's official - dresses are available in my shop, right here. I decided to start out with a design that I've wanted in my closet for years, but could never find anywhere else: a pi dress! So this features an all-over pi print designed by yours truly. And I'm clearly over-the-moon excited about it :D If you're interested, you can read a lot more about the dresses, production, size charts, etc. right here.
Now, I know that very few people share my obsession with pi, so this dress isn't probably going to go over very well, but I'm totally okay with that. I wanted my first dress to be something me-ish, something that I couldn't find anywhere else, something unique. I'll be adding more designs soon, so if this particular one doesn't float your boat just keep an eye out, because I'll be doing outfit posts each time I design a new dress. (Side-note, though, if you *are* interested in having this dress for Pi Day, order soon because they are made to order!)
Also, unrelated to the dress, I think I figured out my hair conundrum. If I let my hair air dry and keep my natural waves, I'm actually kind of okay with this haircut. It was looking particularly unruly the other day and my mom said I looked like Debbie Harry, which was pretty much all I needed to hear to finally accept (and maybe love) this hairdo, haha.

off-kilter
Someone once told me that other people don't usually notice all of your flaws, so you shouldn't point them out. But. I'm still grieving my old haircut, I honestly should be wearing black mourning clothes, I miss it so much. I can't wait for this cut to grow out. It's just such an awkward length, if I don't tuck it behind my ears it looks kind of puffy and messy but if I DO tuck it behind my ears I just feel like I look way older than I want to, like I should be settled down in the suburbs with a minivan (not that there's anything wrong with that, obviously, it's just not my vibe.)
I've touched on this a little a few times lately, but I'm also really struggling with my personal style. It's definitely a small problem in the big scheme of things, but it's ... weird. It's actually an unsettling feeling. I look through my closet and so many pieces feel like they were purchased by somebody else. I guess it's kind of a mini-identity crisis. I'm not entirely sure what DOES feel me-ish at the moment, so I'm still wearing things I used to love and just feeling off-kilter in them. It definitely doesn't help that my hair is throwing off my whole appearance whenever I look in the mirror.

In related news, I'm planning another shop my closet sale on instagram soon. Probably in the next week or so, if I can just get a good sunny day to shoot photos. I'm going to do one sale that's entirely coats (it's beyond embarrassing that I have enough coats to do a coat-only sale, but it is what it is) and one that's all dresses. I'll definitely let you know when I have a set date/time for the sales.

la piscine
A couple things --
First of all, last Saturday I had the IMMENSE pleasure of going to see La Piscine at Lincoln Center. It was one of my favorite movie-going experiences of all time. The screen was massive, like way bigger than I was expecting (it was my first time seeing anything at this theater), and the audience really got into the movie. It's one of those films that is certainly not a comedy, but it has a lot of very subtle humor in it and I loved that everyone around me was *getting it.* There's a very unexpected plot twist about 2/3 of the way in, and it was so fun to be surrounded by people who clearly hadn't seen the movie before, gasping in disbelief. It also takes place in summer, the kind of film where you can almost hear the sun sizzling, which was a very welcome respite from our chilly east coast winter. And it goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway -- seeing Alain Delon's face on the big screen is never a bad idea.
Speaking of Alain Delon's face, it's on my shirt. I wore this to see another of his films, Purple Noon, in December, but it was even more fitting for this outing since the photo is actually from La Piscine. T-shirts are always very long on me, since I'm only 5' tall. I generally wear a kid's XL if that's an option, but it usually isn't (a heads up, though, if you have the same issue - most Teefury shirts also come in kid's sizes, something I appreciate tremendously!) so I've started hemming most of my t-shirts. I'm using this tutorial from youtube which is super easy and lets you keep the factory hem in place. I actually own a lot of t-shirts, but until now they've mostly been relegated to my pajama drawer. It's nice to finally start wearing them now that they actually fit! :)
Lastly, I just want to talk about these boots for a second. They are, hands down, my favorite shoes of all time. It's actually difficult to *not* wear them every day. I might buy a second pair as a backup in case these ever fail me. I've worn them to New York on multiple occasions and they stand up very well on days with lots of walking (my fitbit reports that they saw me through 18,000+ steps last Saturday!) This isn't sponsored in any way, I am just the biggest BAIT fan, and I am so thrilled with this design. They make me feel cool when I wear them, something that doesn't come naturally to me, haha! ;D

one true love
Here's my obligatory Valentine's Day post, dedicated to my one true love - movies. I've got my popcorn print dress and movie brooch and a generous helping of red (and pink, I guess, because hair.)
I've watched a lot of movies so far this year that are already breaking into my favorites. If you love movies, Day for Night is, in my opinion, basically the best tribute to film ever. I've wanted to see it for years but I was putting it off, and it was definitely worth the wait. When you like movies (or music, for that matter) from the past, there's a finite amount. Sure, it's physically impossible for me to watch every single movie in my lifetime, but the truly amazing masterpieces are harder to come by after you've been watching classic movies for a decade or more. So there's a small handful that I put aside, sort of like a movie savings account. (Of course, the flip side of this is Billy Crystal's argument in When Harry Met Sally, that he reads the end of a book first just so he'll know what happens in case he dies before he reaches the end. Saving movies for later could obviously be a bad idea if for some reason I never get the chance to see them.)
Anyway.

Qui?
Oh, hello there, favorite outfit of 2016.
I've had this outfit planned for a couple months, ever since I saw Romy Schneider wearing something similar in the movie "Qui?" I actually bought the turtleneck and the layered necklaces specifically so I could recreate the outfit, I was that smitten. The movie itself isn't that great, but Romy's outfits more than make up for the weak plot and her co-star is Maurice Ronet, an actor I would watch in literally anything.
I took this picture last week (along with one more outfit that I'll post soon) and then I got my hair cut on Saturday. And it came out HORRIBLE. I was actually incredibly happy with my hair for like the first time in my whole life, went in for a trim, and ended up with a super short cut. At least it's acceptable to wear a hat every day in February and March? *sobs*
